Wired Goat Electric serves Spokane, Spokane Valley, the north county, the West Plains, and North Idaho, licensed in both Washington and Idaho.
The electrical work changes street to street around here. A Browne's Addition apartment carved out of a 1900s house is a different job from a Liberty Lake subdivision built in 2015: different wiring, different panel, different problems. And depending on the address the permit comes from a different agency too. The table below covers who issues what.
Licensed in Washington and Idaho
Washington and Idaho do not have electrician license reciprocity in either direction. That means many Spokane-area electricians cannot legally work across the state line. Wired Goat Electric holds both licenses: Washington contractor license WIREDGE782LA and Idaho contractor license 067715.

Who issues your electrical permit
One of the most common questions we get is who actually issues the permit. In this region it is usually not the city. Here is how it breaks down.

Outside the City of Spokane, a job can need two permits from two different agencies: the electrical permit from L&I and a separate building permit from the city or county. A panel change or EV charger with no structural work usually needs only the electrical permit. We pull the electrical permit and schedule the inspection as part of every job that needs one.
Washington is currently on the 2023 NEC (effective April 1, 2024) and moves to the 2026 NEC on December 31, 2026. Idaho is also currently on the 2023 NEC with its own state amendments.

Do you work in North Idaho?+
Yes. We are licensed in Idaho as well as Washington: Idaho electrical contractor license 067715. Washington and Idaho do not have electrician license reciprocity, so not every Spokane-area electrician can legally work across the state line. We can.
Who issues the electrical permit for my job?+
It depends on the location. Inside the City of Spokane, the city issues its own electrical permit. Outside the city, electrical permits and inspections in Washington are handled by WA Labor & Industries. In Idaho, every electrical permit starts at the state DOPL portal, which routes the job to whichever authority covers that address. Building permits are separate and usually come from the city or county where the work happens.
Do you charge a trip fee for outlying areas?+
For work outside the immediate Spokane area, a destination charge may apply. We'll tell you what it is before anything is scheduled, never after.
